The City of Dayton has identified the following clusters as holding significant opportunities for the city to expand the regions job base. Opportunities for collaboration at some of the country’s finest research facilities – including the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson AFB and the University of Dayton Research Institute – have helped make our city one of America’s new centers for advanced technologies. Currently expanding clusters include:
Sensors & RFID TechnologyDaytonis becoming the premier hub for the development and commercialization of new Sensor and RFID (radio frequency identification) solutions.Located in Tech Town is Dayton RFID Convergence Center (DRCC), the first business incubator specifically focusing on RFID technologies. IDCAST, The Institute of Development and Commercialization of Advanced Sensor Technologies, a University of Dayton-led consortium of 8 universities and USAFRL, has established a collaboration center at Tech Town.
Aerospace & Aerospace Medical Research This clusters focuses on technologies for military and commercial industries in areas such as fuels and combustion, sensor fusion and data management, simulations, alternative energies, human performance, and combat technologies. In 2009, Dayton was named Ohio’s official Aerospace Hub. The Aersopace Hub initiative leverages this designation by linking WPAFB with related aerospace academic research efforts, commercialization channels, and business incubators.
Advanced Manufacturing & Materials The Dayton region is one of the largest tooling, machining and material processing centers in the nation. The region is home to several of the world’s top materials research institutions including University of Dayton Research Institute and Air Force Research Labs Materials Directorate.
