Tech Town in Dayton Ohio
Tech Town District
Tech Town: Dayton Ohio
Technology Oriented District: Tech Town

The Tech Town district serves as a setting where business, academia and government work together strategically to support the region's core competencies. A major emphasis of this collaborative spirit will be technology commercialization---taking technologies developed at WPAFB and other regional R&D facilities, and applying them to commercial uses.

Tech Town offers a unique technology support system that encourages collaboration as well as commercialization of technology that was formerly limited to academic and military use. Businesses and local universities contribute even more to the research and development going on at the base. As a result of serving as collaboration facilitator, Tech Town further strengthens Dayton's role as a technology leader.

Many elements of Tech Town are already in place. The City of Dayton has acquired 30 acres for Tech Town and has control of an additional 25 acres. Demolition of old structures has begun and a "Tech Town Campus Master Plan" has been created following a thorough site analysis.

The Entrepreneurs Center, a technology business incubator located within Tech Town, is filled to capacity. Weston Solutions, Inc., an environmental remediation company based in Pennsylvania, will move 30 employees to a new 48,000-square-foot Tech Town building in the spring of 2007. Also scheduled to move into the same building are Quantrum LLC, an information technology company currently housed in The Entrepreneurs Center, and Diamond of Ohio LLC, a technology consulting firm currently

Many "green building" techniques are being utilized in the design and construction of Tech Town. The term green building refers to ecologically friendly standards aimed at lessening a building’s impact on the surrounding environment as well as prolonging that building’s life. Examples of green features include natural lighting, energy-efficient window and door fixtures, rooftop gardens and extensive outdoor landscaping. In addition to being eco-friendly, these types of features will help attract tenants by setting Tech Town apart from other office developments.

The City of Dayton is getting creative with plans for the Creative Technology Accelerator as it strives for a LEED "Gold" certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Click here form more information about Leadership in Energy and Environment Design.

The Tech Town District includes or is within walking distance of numerous recreational destinations and other amenities, including: Fifth Third Field, home of the Dayton Dragons minor-league baseball team; hundreds of loft-style housing units; Riverscape Park; numerous nightclubs, bars, coffeehouses and restaurants; an arts district featuring the new Schuster Performing Arts Center; and much, much more.
